Mon. Day-09 Jaipur

Jaipur
the capital of rajasthan still looks cradled and well protected. Jaipur takes
its name from maharaja jai Singh, who in the early 1700s, became the king of
amber at the age of 13. He soon added architect and astronomy to his credentials.
He designed the bulk of his new capital, with its exquisite buildings of rose
colored terra cotta, thus giving it the name of "the pink city" with
pink and orange the dominant colors, the effect is magic at dusk. After breakfast
drive to amber fort with local guide. For six centuries, the capital of rajasthan
and the nucleus of rajput history, amber is now little but a deserted palace
surrounded by majestic ramparts. The palace that rises on the slopes of a steep
hill behind the Maota Lake retains an air of great beauty. To get to the palace
you can either walk or arrive, pompously enough, on the back of a gaily-caparisoned
elephant, which explains the unusual height of the palace gateways. The whole
fort glows with a galaxy of decorative art - panels of alabaster with fine inlay
work of the tenders hues. Each room shows some vestige of its former glory,
especially the 'sheesh mahal (chamber of mirrors). Once inside this room,
close the doors, strike a match and then see the walls and ceilings twinkle
and glow like thousand stars all together. After amber visit the city palace,
jantar mantar, hava Mahal, amongst others important things. Overnight at hotel

chisti, who lived in a small village. Chisti blessed Akbar and, in turn, the
emperor was blessed with a son, whom he named Salem in honor of the holy man.
Salem later took throne over as Jahangir. The grateful Akbar decided to move
his capital to the village where he died in 1569. Fatehpur sikri lies on rocky
ridge about two miles long and one mile widest this ridge was no problem to
the mogul emperor, who simply sliced off the top to find room for his city.
At the foot of the ridge, he waved his hand once and created an artificial lake
measuring 20 miles around. The lake formed one side of the city. On arrival
visit sicker and its interesting places in it. From here continue drive to Agra

that has passed through time: Mumtaz Mahal, the exalted of the palace. When
she died, Shah Jahan was grief stricken and vowed to build her a memorial surpassing
anything the world had ever seen in beauty and in the wild extravagance. He
brought in skilled craftsmen from Persia, turkey, France and Italy. He put a
huge army of 20,000 laborers to work, building a whole new village ( taj ganj,
which still stands) to house them. Taj Mahal - this huge mass of white marble
resting on red sandstone is a jewel, fashioned over 17 years. The work ended
on the exact anniversary of Mumtaz Mahal's death. Glimpsed from the enormous
main gateway inscribed with verses of the Koran (the entire Koran is said to
be reproduced on its walls), the taj mahal reveals with the suddenness of a
jewel box opening before your eyes. After breakfast board train for Jhansi.
